Costa Rica: North Pacific

Nicoya Peninsula and Guanacaste

These areas in the North Pacific region of Costa Rica feature a delightful mixture of boutique hotels and resorts right on the beach. There are several signature golf courses in these areas.

The beaches are stunning, and the fishing and surfing are great. Rincon de la Vieja National Park is also in this area. The landscape is much like that of Northern California.

It is easy to fly to several landing strips from other parts of Costa Rica or directly from the US to Liberia International Airport. Guanacaste, a province that is rich in ranch history was, at one time, part of Nicaragua.

This area is known for its Tropical Dry Forest that turns “gold” in the dry season. The Nicoya Peninsula offers a number of excellent beaches. Surfers flock to Santa Teresa, Mal Pais, Nosara and Tamarindo to catch some waves.

The Nicoya Peninsula is known for its laid-back, bohemian atmosphere that is perfect for people who want to take life easy and enjoy the beach.
