Costa Rica Activites

Costa Rica is known for its beautiful wildlife and endless opportunities for adventure.  This country packs a lot of experiences into a small area.  Each region of Costa Rica offers unique experiences.  Read below to decide which regions you would like to visit on your next trip:

Central Valley

Costa Rica’s Central Valley region is a great area to visit to experience lush cloud forests, coffee plantations, the Poás Volcano and more. Many travelers opt to stay in this region when they first arrive in Costa Rica or the night before they depart, as this is the region closest to the San Jose International Airport.

North Central

The Arenal Volcano is the largest and most popular destination in this region. The volcano is not currently active, but that doesn’t take away from its gorgeous, imposing presence while you stay in the area. Arenal is the perfect destination for those who want to experience adventure and relaxation.

North Pacific

This area is home to many of the largest, most luxurious hotels and resorts. The gorgeous beaches in this region feature some of the best surfing in the country. Enjoy the amazing views of the Pacific Ocean and the fantastic amenities offered by the resorts.

Nicoya Peninsula

This is a surfer’s paradise! The peninsula is known for its laid back lifestyle. This is a great place to visit if you are into the bohemian, relaxed way of life. This area is a favorite among celebrities.  The beaches here are beautiful and pristine.

Central Pacific

One of the main attractions of the Manuel Antonio area are the monkeys! There are many opportunities to view wildlife in this area. This beach town features great dining, nightlife, spectacular Pacific Ocean views, and beautiful beaches.

Osa Peninsula

This area is one of the most biologically intense places in the world! The Osa Peninsula is dotted with many eco-lodges and surrounded by dense rainforest. The Golfo Dulce is a great place to watch for dolphins, whales and sea turtles. On land, you will encounter all kinds of wildlife in its native environment. It is quite common to see Scarlet Macaws flying overhead.


This area of Costa Rica is full of verdant plantlife and offers sleepy, uncrowded beaches.  The hotels and beach towns in this area have that funky, relaxed Caribbean vibe.  Nothing too fancy in this part of the country.  Everyone is laid back and hotels are often open-air and surrounded by rainforest.  This region includes the famous Tortuguero area, known for its mangroves that are teeming with wildlife.
