Costa Rica National Parks
Barra Colorado Wildlife Refuge
Location: Caribbean Zone
Barra Colorado extends from Tortuguero National Park to the San Juan River, which is the natural border between Costa Rica and Nicaragua. Although this park is very remote, the airport has a long, black topped runway. It is very popular for tarpin and snook fishing. It is similar to Tortuguero only on a more grand scale and much less visited. It may be possible to see the manatees in the lagoons of Barra Colorado. It is one of the wettest parks and therefore a heavy jungle.

From San José: 25 minute flight or 3 hours on paved road and 3 hours boat ride up the canals.
Principle attractions: Costa Rica’s “Amazon”! Explore the rainforest via rivers and lagoons teeming with monkeys, crocodiles, toucans. Also great tarpon and snook fishing.
