Tapanti National Wild Refuge

Location: Central Valley & Highlands

Tapanti is another example of a national park close to San José. It is possible to take a day tour here for a hike in the rain/cloud fores, have excellent opportunities for wildlife watching, picnicing, and very good trout fishing. The Quetzal live in this region year round. It can be cool and very wet here, so be prepared.

Size: 6,080 Hectares.

From San José: 1½ hours on paved road and ½ hours on gravel road.

Principle attractions: Lush rain forest, Orosi River Valley, orchids, birds (Quetzal), trout fishing.
